Losses in Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine for Electric Vehicles Propulsion Systems
The authors of this paper provide a parametric and comparative analysis of the two most common topologies in axial flux electric machines: dual-rotor and dual-stator configurations, which use tooth-coil (concentrated) windings and surface-mounted magnets. Energy losses during the WLTP cycle in Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) applications are the main focus of the comparison, which aims to pinpoint the main causes of losses for each type of machine as well as the crucial optimization points needed to satisfy BEV requirements.
