Decision Making in Managing the Choice of UTM-Based Wireless Mapping Systems for Geospatial Data Transmission via LoRa

Geospatial data visualization and wireless data transmission play a crucial role in modern mapping and navigation systems. This paper presents a tile-based UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) mapping system designed for ESP32 with integrated LoRa communication. The proposed system enables efficient storage, retrieval, and rendering of vector map data on resource-constrained devices, making it suitable for real-time geographic applications. The map data is stored in a hierarchical folder structure on an SD card, where each tile corresponds to a specific UTM zone and is dynamically loaded based on user navigation. The system supports wireless tile synchronization via LoRa, allowing map data exchange between multiple ESP32 nodes, enabling decentralized and offline-capable mapping solutions. A caching mechanism optimizes memory usage, ensuring smooth map rendering on TFT displays. The proposed solution is particularly useful for remote or low-connectivity environments, where traditional network-based mapping services are unavailable. The paper explores the architecture, implementation, and performance evaluation of the system, highlighting its potential for geospatial applications in UAV navigation, environmental monitoring, and emergency response operations.
