Analytical Vibration Model of Stator Inter-Turn Short Circuit and Eccentricity in a Synchronous Generator at Different Loading Conditions
Low-severity stator inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) and orbital eccentricity in synchronous generators (SMs) might not result in clear features or fault characteristics using vibration signals. Further, the effect of load profiles is unavoidable in fault detection of generators. This paper models the effect of the mentioned faults in a SM in various load profiles on the vibration signals on the SM stator surface. The impact of the stator ITSC and eccentricity on vibration harmonics are analyzed using the suggested analytic model based on Fourier expression of magnetic force density. Finally, the results from the suggested analytic model are experimentally validated on an in-house experimental setup.
