Electromechanical Oscillations Angle Compensation Technique for Sensorless Permanent Magnet Motor Drive

This paper introduces an efficient Electromechanical Oscillations Angle Compensation (EOAC) approach for sensorless Permanent Magnet Motor (PMM) drives. Initially, the electromechanical vibrations mechanism provoked during open loop sensorless startup process is thoroughly analyzed. Then, the proposed method utilizes an online vibration compensation strategy based on the measured and ideal motor output power. The starting process from standstill employing the proposed technique is smoother and more reliable, resulting in less startup failures and speed fluctuation. The controller's design, simulation in a precise discrete transient model and experimental validation process highlights this method's benefits over conventional open-loop startup methods deriving the electric angle directly from the reference speed. This is evident in enhanced motor drive robustness and stability.
