System Level, Comparative Loss Evaluation of Interior Permanent Magnet Drive with Traditional and Predictive Control Strategies
Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control (FCSMPC) is a control technique that has incited large interest in the power electronics community for both grid connected and machine drive applications, due to its good flexibility and excellent dynamics. This paper presents a system level comparison of two MPC current control strategies with a traditional Field Oriented Control (FOC) architecture. By employing coupled simulations, the impact of different modulation characteristics on electrical machine performance is quantified, allowing designers to better match control strategy strengths with application level requirements.
