Design and Simulation of an Autonomous Docking System using Wireless Charging Method in Multirotor

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) maintain than ability to navigate in small spaces and stay over locations for a period of time, but they are constrained by limited flight duration and endurance. Researchers have tried to address the endurance limitations through strategies including battery swapping, multiple ground stations, and wireless power transmission technologies (e.g., microwave, laser). However, these technologies face certain difficulties related to design and integration complexity. This paper explores wireless power transfer method based on electromagnetic induction. This technique is comprised of a primary drone connected to a wireless receiver and a secondary charging drone integrated into a wireless transmitter. This secondary drone’s deployment significantly enhances Electronic Warfare Support. The charging drone use flight path optimization algorithms to determine an optimal trajectory for docking with the primary drone, facilitating wireless recharging. This approach is adaptable to any UAV application to provide enhanced durability and efficient power transmission through Super/Ultra Capacitors.
