Charge Transport and Noise Characteristics in WO3 Hybrid Nanowire–Nanoparticle Networks: Insights into Conduction Mechanisms and Trap Dynamics

This study investigates the charge transport and noise characteristics in a hybrid network of WO3 nanowires and nanoparticles, emphasizing the role of traps in governing both phenomena. At low electric fields, transport is dominated by variable-range hopping (VRH), while at higher fields, space-charge-limited conduction (SCLC) takes over. The exponential distribution of traps significantly influences both the transport behavior and the noise characteristics, which follow a 1/f1.8 power-law dependence. The noise spectral density scales with the square of the current, suggesting that fluctuations in trap occupancy are responsible for the observed noise. By linking the transport and noise behaviors, this study highlights the unifying role of traps in determining the electrical properties of WO3 hybrid networks. These findings offer valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms, which are crucial for applications where understanding and controlling trap dynamics can optimize device performance.
