Thoughts of a former Program Director

These are just my thoughts on some topics related to NSF, and the AF program in particular; this is not an official NSF opinion. Some things are specific to the AF program, others might have a wider relevance. Other (former) program directors may have different opinions, and other programs may have different practices. I do not include any discussion of recent events; my NSF period ended March 6th 2025, when the NSF was going through a period of upheaval and insecurity; but, as I was leaving, we again held panels and made awards, so I believe that after the upheaval there will be a return to normal. I think it would be an error to stop submitting proposals. Again that is just my personal belief.
