The protection of consumers’ personal information in online shopping has gradually become a prominent issue, primarily manifested in the following aspects: imperfect legal mechanisms for safeguarding personal information, difficulty in identifying liable parties for infringements, and excessively high costs for consumers. Therefore, it is necessary to re-examine these issues and seek optimization paths based on existing frameworks to enhance the practical adaptability of personal information protection for online consumers. To address the challenge of identifying liable parties for infringements, improving legislative safeguards and strengthening industry self-regulation are critical. Additionally, raising consumers’ awareness of personal information protection is essential. Only through the collective efforts of society can a virtuous cycle for the operation of personal information protection be established, ensuring the sustainable development of consumer data protection in online shopping. This requires a holistic approach that integrates legal refinement, industry accountability, and public education to foster trust and security in the digital marketplace.
