SOCIOCULTURAL DESIGN: TOWARDS A CLARIFICATION OF THE CONCEPT

The article examines approaches to defining socio-cultural aspects of design activity, in the context of which the phenomenon of socio-cultural design is a special topic. It is considered as a specific direction both in the field of design and in the socio-cultural space as a whole. It is noted that the basis determining the content of socio-cultural design is the need to solve current socio-cultural problems with the help of projective technologies inherent in design. Their features include a complex combination of social and cultural aspects, value and semantic characteristics, pragmatic and aesthetic properties. This determines special requirements for a specialist of this profile, including competent orientation in the totality of theoretical and methodological content of the spectrum of disciplines of the socio-humanitarian profile. The multi-aspect nature of such a vision of socio-cultural design complicates the formation of a clear, conceptually formalized idea of its essence and direction. This, in turn, complicates not only the possibilities of theoretical understanding of the phenomenon, but also the prospects for a more accurate and targeted use of the positive potential of socio-cultural design in real practices. Based on the conceptual analysis of the problem, as well as the use of a contextual approach, theauthor’s concept of socio-cultural design is proposed. Using the example of the design of industrial heritage objects, the verification of the formed theoretical provisions is carried out. Thus, the purpose of the presented article is to substantiate the concept of socio-cultural design, taking into account various versions of understanding this phenomenon.
