TRANSLATION AS A RESOURCE FOR INTERCULTURAL MEDIATION
This article is devoted to the consideration of translation as a resource of intercultural (translation) mediation. Translation mediation should be understood as a process and result of bilingual or multilingual communication, taking into account the linguistic and sociocultural realities of both linguistic sides, aimed at creating the most effective conditions (formation of positive attitudes, mutual tolerance and empathy, increasing the effectiveness of information exchange, reducing the risks of misunderstanding, etc.) of intercultural interaction and optimizing its consequences. Structurally, translation mediation is a combination of the following elements: translation as a mediation resource (without translation, translation mediation is impossible); interpreter (a mediation agent, providing both intercultural communication and regulating the conditions of interaction); translation situation, or mediation context (a situation that determines the purpose, conditions, nature and results of mediation). There are three main strategies for interpreting the correlation between translation and intercultural (translation) mediation: synonymous (translation as mediation); technological (translation as a mediation technology); conversion (translation as a mediation resource that determines its effectiveness). Specific features of translation as a resource of intercultural mediation are: potentiality, situationality; adaptability; prolongation; proactivity of the translation position; functional diversification.
