Modelling the Three Phases of Shaped Charge Function
Abstract Several series of shaped charge experimental trials have been conducted looking at jet formation, jet particulation, jet penetration and jet-stopper efficiency and we have investigated the important features in Eulerian simulations of the experiments and a simplified system. The simplified system model was based on the x-ray analysis of the results of shaped charge experiments, where the jet was either continuous or had particulated. The simulations contradict conventional wisdom regarding continuous vs. particulated jet penetration, and suggest that only particle drift is responsible for reduced penetration with particulated jets.
