Hugoniot Measurement of BK-7 Windows by Using Aluminum Impactors Launched by Explosive
Abstract This paper presents the Hugoniot of BK-7 window in a range of high pressure (> 30 GPa) by using aluminum impactors launched by explosives. The impactor is a small-scale device equipped with a < 1-mm-thick Al flyer attached to a 19-mm-diameter and 52-mm-thick explosive. To obtain the Hugoniot of the BK-7 window, Al flyers with five different thicknesses (0.3, 0.4, 0.7, 0.8, 1.0 mm) impact on the windows, and impact and interface velocities are measured by photonic doppler velocimetry. Additionally, we verify our method by performing an impact experiment with LiF which is a widely used optical window in shock compression experiments.
