Development of an Experimental System for Hypervelocity Impact Sterilization Tests
Abstract The assessment of potential microbial contamination on Martian-moon surface is important from the view of planetary protection for the Martian Moon Exploration (MMX) mission. In order to estimate the probability finding the living microorganisms on the Martian moons, hypervelocity impact sterilization is one of important factors. In this work, we have developed an experimental system for hypervelocity impact sterilization tests with an impact speed up to 3 km/s, and obtained preliminary results for Bacillus atrophaeus spores, Brevundimonas diminuta, Deinococcus radiodurans, and bacteriophage MS2.
