A NEW APPROACH TO INCREASING THE PRODUCTIVITY OF TURNING POLYMER MATERIALS
The article presents the results of a study of changes in the mechanical characteristics of polymeric materials depending on the parameters of electrophysical processing of samples with nanosecond electromagnetic pulses. The most common materials in mechanical engineering, such as caprolon, fluoroplastic, getinax and textolite, were selected as the materials of the experimental samples. The NEMI GNI-01-1-6 generator was used as a source of NEMI, having the following parameters: pulse duration – 1 ns; power of one pulse 1 MW; pulse amplitude 8 kV; pulse repetition rate 1000 Hz; electric field strength 105–107 V/m. The analysis of experimental data shows that the treatment of the studied materials with nanosecond electromagnetic pulses for 10 minutes leads to a noticeable decrease in the strength and hardness of all the studied materials. New methods of turning polymeric materials using advanced electrophysical processing of workpieces with nanosecond electromagnetic pulses are presented. The feasibility of such treatment has been experimentally confirmed, since its implementation leads to a decrease in the cutting force during subsequent turning of the workpieces, and, consequently, to an increase in the productivity of the process, for example, due to an increase in the cutting speed and/or the amount of the removed allowance.
