The arts and crafts of attention
The questions concerning the ways we perceive art could be called transhistorical – regardless of what kind of art formats are currently popular, what the spirit of the epoch under research is and who belongs to the group of the audience that we are interested in, there is always this ‘how?’ aspect to the ‘what?’ that we, as art audiences, watch. And precisely this ‘how?’ aspect is the area of interest for Claire Bishop in her recently published book Disordered Attention: How We Look at Art and Performance Today (Verso, 2024).
