Ameloblastom i overkjeven – veien til rett diagnose

English summary Ameloblastoma in the upper jaw – finding the right diagnosis. A case report Nor Tannlegeforen Tid. 2024; 134: 968-72. Ameloblastoma is a rare benign odontogenic tumor. The tumor is most common in the lower jaw, and less than 20 % of the cases are found in the upper jaw. This clinical case presents a 52-year-old Caucasian man that developed a slow growing lesion on the upper jaw, with few symptoms. The lesion was first considered to be an apical lesion related to a necrotic tooth. However, after further clinical, radiological and histopathological investigation the diagnosis of ameloblastoma was confirmed. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges met in everyday dental practice, and the importance of thorough investigation using different radiology modalities, clinical evaluation and testing. Due to the invasive growth pattern and the high risk of recurrence, treatment of ameloblastoma should be based on individual evaluation and close follow up for several years.
