THE ROLE OF MATHEMATICS IN ENHANCING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS

This study examines the essential function of mathematics in cultivating critical thinking abilities in college students. Mathematics, as a fundamental academic discipline, cultivates logical reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical thinking skills that are crucial in today's knowledge-driven economy. The paper examines the impact of mathematical learning on students' capacity to analyse intricate problems, formulate coherent arguments, and make decisions based on data, through an extensive review of pertinent literature of undergraduate students across various disciplines. The paper also look into the teaching strategies that facilitate or obstruct the application of mathematical reasoning to practical situations. The results show a strong link between doing maths activities for a long time and being able to think critically better. This shows how important it is to make maths more meaningful in all subjects. The paper put forth the suggestions for teachers and policymakers to change the way they teach maths so that it not only teaches maths but also helps students develop higher-order thinking skills.
