A Crowdsourced, OpenStreetMap-Integrated Navigation System for Adaptive Route Generation and Location Accessibility for People with Disabilities

Individuals with disabilities face challenges in urban navigation due to the limitations of traditional systems. This research introduces an adaptive navigation solution leveraging OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and crowdsourced contributions to enhance accessibility. Users can search for accessible locations based on features like ramps, elevators, braille signage, and restrooms, with data verified by businesses and the community. The system offers context-aware routing, adjusting for weather, crowd density, and user-specific needs such as mobility aids. Features include Group Mode for shared planning, voice navigation for visually impaired users, and joystick controls for motor disabilities. A real-time feedback mechanism allows users to report accessibility issues, ensuring continuous improvements. Businesses can verify and showcase accessibility features, promoting social inclusion and accountability. This study explores system design, routing algorithms, and real-time update challenges to improve mobility for individuals with disabilities.
