On The Transformation of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) into Elevation Profile using Aggregated Transect Line
Land elevation can be depicted on a map using transect lines, but the elevation outside these transects often needs to be defined. As modern digital map users increasingly seek comprehensive information about natural features, such as land elevation, it is crucial to provide more accessible and detailed data for any given area. This study presents a method for transforming a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) into an elevation profile using aggregated transect lines. This approach allows for a detailed description of the elevation signature of a selected area. The elevation profile is estimated by generating a family of transect lines radiating from the centroid of the area of interest. The circumferential distribution of these lines and the frequency of elevation values provide a reliable estimate of the overall elevation profile, offering a more comprehensive understanding of the terrain in the selected region.
