Dual-Turbine Hybrid Energy System for Fishing Boats

This study presents a dual-turbine system utilizing a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) and a Savonius turbine to harness wind and propeller-induced turbulent energy, respectively. The VAWT, featuring a combination of straight and Savonius blades, is designed to capture wind energy from multiple directions, even at low wind speeds. Meanwhile, a Savonius turbine positioned behind the boat's propeller converts the rotational energy of the propeller into additional mechanical power. The generated energy is converted through Permanent Magnet Alternators (PMAs) and stored in a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery system, managed by a Battery Management System (BMS) and charge controllers. This dual-turbine system maximizes energy recovery and enhances the operational efficiency of fishing vessels by providing a renewable energy source. The study outlines the design specifications, power output, and integration strategies for these turbines, emphasizing their potential in marine applications.
