IoT Based Smart Waste Segregation
Waste management is a critical challenge in urban areas, and also manual segregation of waste is inefficient, labor-intensive, and hazardous. This project proposes an Automatic Waste Segregation System that classifies waste into dry, wet, and metal categories using three sensors namely a metal sensor, IR sensor, and a rain drop sensor. The system functions by detecting metallic objects using an inductive proximity sensor, directing them to a dedicated portion. Wet waste is then analyzed using a rain drop-moisture sensor, which identifies wet waste based on moisture content and directs it accordingly. Finally, the remaining waste, categorized as dry waste, is sent to the dry waste portion using an infrared sensor and actuator combination. The system is controlled using Arduino and servo motors automate the waste sorting process with the aid of the appropriate sensors and thus a source waste segregation model is proposed in our work.
