Power Efficient Smart Antenna Array for Wireless Communication

In today’s world Smart antenna technology is highly promising as the demand for efficient and reliable communication systems rises. By utilizing beamforming techniques, smart antennas enhance signal directionality, reduce interference and focus on specific users while minimizing unwanted reception. This approach significantly improves signal efficiency, resulting in faster and more reliable wireless communication. This paper presents a polygonal structure of a smart patch antenna array which is capable of dynamic beam steering based on user availability and the Direction of Arrival (DOA). The proposed design introduces an optimized and power-efficient smart patch antenna array for the ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) band, capable of increasing capacity while preserving signal quality. Beam steering is managed through a low-cost 2.45 GHz RF transceiver module connected to a microcontroller. The performance of each array element and the proposed beam forming technique is verified experimentally and presented in this paper.
