Method of Automatic Tuning of Wireless Power Transfer Circuit for Maximum Power Transfer in Implantable IoT Devices

In implantable internet of things (IoT) devices, optimum wireless powering is challenging because of the inherent variability of the mutual inductance between the transmitter and receiver coils due to muscle growth and misalignment with time. In this paper, an intelligent tuning method is proposed for Implantable IoT devices to operate at maximum output power which automatically detects the change in mutual inductance and modifies the circuit parameters accordingly. The required operating frequency and the compensation capacitors are calculated and adjusted separately in both transmitter and receiver circuits using reconfigurable solid-state devices and programmable switches. Our proposed method is verified by calculations and simulations and maximum output power is obtained irrespective of the mutual inductance.
