The Role and Development Direction of Non-Terrestrial Networks in 6G Communication Networks

This paper explores the role and significance of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) in 6G communication systems, highlighting how NTN can complement terrestrial networks to provide global coverage and improve network resilience. In the 6G era, NTN is expected to integrate with advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), network optimization, Open Radio Access Network (ORAN), and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) to create efficient, secure, and customized communication environments. Despite these potential benefits, implementing NTN presents challenges, including spectrum management, signal latency, security, and the intricacies of quantum communication, all of which demand international collaboration and substantial further research. Future research directions are proposed to address frequency coexistence, and the commercial feasibility of quantum-enhanced NTNs, aiming to realize a secure and efficient 6G communication environment.

Abstract

This paper explores the role and significance of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) in 6G communication systems, highlighting how NTN can complement terrestrial networks to provide global coverage and improve network resilience. In the 6G era, NTN is expected to integrate with advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), network optimization, Open Radio Access Network (ORAN), and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) to create efficient, secure, and customized communication environments.
