Changes in design approaches in architecture and urban planning of Kharkiv 2nd half of the 1950s - early 1970s
The article highlights, using the example of the city of Kharkiv, the most important changes in conceptual approaches and architectural and urban planning practice during the period of a radical turn in architectural and urban planning design to the principles of modernism in the second half of the 1950s and the times of accelerated deployment of industrial construction technologies during the following decade. The second most important city of Ukraine during the third quarter of the twentieth century significantly changed its appearance as a result of large-scale housing construction, which took place on the basis of a radical change in design approaches in the architecture and urban planning of Kharkiv. This article is a continuation of a series of publications in which the author considers various aspects of architectural and urban planning activities in Kharkiv during the second half of the 1940s - early 1970s. This period remains insufficiently studied in Ukrainian architectural science, despite its enormous influence on the formation of the modern architectural appearance of Kharkiv. The article attempts to trace the essence of changes in conceptual approaches and architectural and urban planning practices of Ukrainian architecture during the period of development of mass industrial construction using the example of the architectural life of Kharkiv, to show the peculiarities of the process of changing architectural styles and urban planning design methods, some of which were developed and implemented in practice in Kharkiv.
