Assessment Of Mental and Accessory Mental Foramina: A Retrospective Study Using Cone Beam CT
This retrospective study assessed the prevalence, location, and morphology of mental and accessory mental foramina (AMFs) using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in 337 patients. AMFs were identified in 26.4% of cases, predominantly located mesially and inferiorly to the main mental foramen. Significant differences in AMF presence were noted by sex, while age-related morphometric variations were observed. The findings underscore the importance of CBCT for accurate identification of AMFs to optimize surgical and anesthetic outcomes. This study contributes valuable anatomical data to guide clinical decision-making in mandibular interventions.
