The 2025 Belarusian Presidential Elections: Return to Stability

On January 26, 2025, presidential elections were held in Belarus. It was the first presidential election to be held under the new electoral legislation. Five Belarusian politicians competed for the presidency, but A.G. Lukashenko was expected to win. The candidates’ election programs reflected their ideological views, so their content was predictable. The program of the leader of the Communist Party of Belarus is distinguished by its originality, which turned out to be more like a set of slogans. The program of A. Lukashenko, who won the election, again suggests returning to a multi-vector approach, which is not very feasible in the current conditions. All the fears about a possible destabilization of the situation during the elections turned out to be in vain. The elections were held calmly.
