Case Study on the Development of the New Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport
INTRODUCTION The Domestic Airport at Santa Cruz and International Airport at Sahar were not sufficient to cater the continuous growth of air traffic. The terminals, runways, cargo, ancillary and support facilities were required to upgrade to suite the future growth. A master plan has been developed with a vision and framework for long term and same time realistic in the short time to build a new world class airport within the available limited land. It was planned to increase the present capacity of handling 21 million passenger and 465,000 tons of cargo per year to close to 40 million passengers and about a million tons of air cargo shipment by 2015.
