Semiawake Extubation
The COVID-19 pandemic placed unprecedented strain on health care systems worldwide, creating significant challenges for critical care practices.1 Resource limitations prompted urgent re-examinations of extubation timing because standard protocols often depended on full neurologic recovery before extubation.1-3 Traditionally, readiness for extubation is determined by the presence of an adequate cough and appropriate mentation, either in the absence of sedation or with sufficient cognitive responsiveness when sedated.
