Telemedicine in India an impact analysis
The rapid growth of telemedicine in India has revolutionized healthcare delivery, especially in rural and underserved regions. This paper compares eSanjeevani, the government-led telemedicine initiative, with major private telemedicine providers in India, such as corporate hospital-1 through corporate hospital-6 (names masked for confidentiality). eSanjeevani, launched under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, operates through a hub-and-spoke model, connecting primary healthcare centers with secondary and tertiary hospitals to ensure equitable access to health services nationwide. In contrast, private providers primarily offer virtual consultations and diagnostic services, focusing largely on urban and semi-urban populations. Key differences between the models include geographic reach, service offerings, and infrastructure. While eSanjeevani emphasizes public health and universal health coverage, private platforms focus on specialized care, customer convenience, and technological innovation. Despite operating under different paradigms, both systems significantly contribute to transforming healthcare delivery in India. This comparative analysis highlights the complementary roles of government and private telemedicine initiatives in enhancing accessibility, affordability, and quality of healthcare.
