Recent Advances in Formulations for Andrographolide Delivery System
Andrographolide (AG) is vital in pharmacological activity such as analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammation, hepatoprotection, antiviral, antithrombotic, anti-cancer, and hypoglycemic. However, AG has poor drug solubility in water and low bioavailability, which interferes with the performance of andrographolide in treating diseases. Many strategies have been investigated to improve the bioavailability of AG and provide a time-release effect on the absorption process to extend the half-life of AG. The journal review was written using the library study method from 2001-2023, which contained information about the Development of Andrographolide In Drug Delivery Systems. The journal review discussed some approaches to achieving therapeutic goals for AG. The result of this review obtained that some of these approaches, including solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), liposomes, microemulsion (ME), nanoemulsion (NE), microsphere (Ms), polymeric nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), self micro emulsifying drug delivery system (SMEEDS), and niosome, can improve the limitation of conventional formulation of AG by increasing penetration, permeability, and bioavailability of AG.
