Applications of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in Enhancing the Safety of Tai Chi

Tai Chi is increasingly gaining popularity worldwide as a traditional Chinese exercise due to its health benefits. However, as Tai Chi becomes more widely spread, concerns regarding its safety have emerged among practitioners. This paper uses the source-message-channelreceiver (SMCR) model to address the safety concerns associated with the dissemination of Tai Chi. It also explores the potential applications of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies in enhancing the safety of Tai Chi practice. It was found that VR motion capture can provide real-time biomechanical feedback, which aids in correcting posture deviations, such as knee strain, thereby minimizing the risk of injury. AR technology can help virtual instructors to guide precise movements, ensuring adherence to safe techniques. By bridging the traditional Chinese exercise with advanced technologies, this research puts forward potential solutions to solve the safety problems in the dissemination of Tai chi, which is of great significance for the wide spread of Tai Chi throughout the world.
