Deep Breathing Assignment for Self-Care: Undergraduate Social Work Field Placement Students
This teaching note centers on a self-care assignment that adopted a deep breathing technique for stress management and self-care among BSW students in field placement. The assignment was designed utilizing mindfulness to generate and keep students’ motivation. Its effectiveness was examined through the Professional Quality of Life Scale. Students’ compassion satisfaction has significantly increased, but no significant differences were found in burnout and secondary traumatic stress, which indicates that students’ stress levels have not increased after completing the internship.
