Fashion Industry from an Entropic Perspective and Sustainability Capilist Society

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of the fashion industry in an entropic perspective on capitalist society, and its effects on sustainability, in order to relate the law of entropy on the market demands of fashion in capitalism, making emerge the multidisciplinary understanding based on the tripod nature, society and economy. Theoretical Framework: In this topic, the main concepts and theories that underlie the research are presented. Georgescu-Roegen’s Theory of Entropy, fundamentals of Thermodynamics applied to the ecological economy, criticism of programmed obsolescence, hyperconsumption in capitalism, systemic services and the biophysical limits of the planet, providing a solid basis for understanding the object being investigated. Method: The bibliographic method with qualitative approach was used. The data collection was based on secondary sources of books, articles, theses and news materials in websites available on the internet. The main analysis techniques employed were content analysis and contextual socio-historical discourse of dialectical criticism. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that the fashion industry, inserted in the capitalist logic, intensifies the entropic process by promoting accelerated cycles of production and disposal, contributing significantly to the generation of waste, environmental degradation and aprofundamentoo of social inequalities. In the discussion section, these results are contextualized in light of the theoretical framework, highlighting the implications and relationships identified. Possible discrepancies and limitations of the study are also considered in this section. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing insights on how the results can be applied or influence practices and praxis with respect to the degradation of/in ecosystems. These implications may encourage the formulation of public policies aimed at environmental education, especially in industrial and commercial sectors. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by adopting an innovative approach that relates the theory of entropy, with socio-environmental impacts of the fashion industry in the capitalist system, proposing a critical reading of production and consumption processes from the perspective of ecological irreversibility. The relevance and value of this research are evidenced by its ability to broaden the debate on sustainability, offering theoretical and reflective subsidies for more responsible practices in the field of production and consumption.
