A novel method for optimizing the parameters of dynamic vibration absorber for reducing torsional oscillations of high-speed rotor based on dual estimation

The harmful torsional oscillations of high-speed rotors, such as steam turbines and generator rotors, significantly affect machine performance, especially when the rotor runs at high load torque. The dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) is the best solution for the oscillation problem. However, previous methods for weakening the harmful torsional oscillation using DVA of a high-speed rotor can improve the reducing torsional oscillations to meet engineering requirements. Therefore, a novel method for optimizing the parameters of the DVA is proposed to reduce the torsional oscillations of the high-speed rotor based on an extraordinary estimation called dual estimation. Estimating the duality of equivalent linearization techniques is used to replace the high-damped rotor with an approximately equivalent undamped rotor to create the general transfer function system. The optimal parameters of the DVA system are found by optimizing the general transfer function system. In the present example, the preciseness and compatibility of the dual estimation are confirmed based on the comparison with the results of the least squares estimation through the transfer function and the similitude of the dynamic response between the tantamount un-damped rotor and the original damped rotor. The results of the dynamic behavior investigation of the high-speed rotor and the sensitivity analysis for optimal DVA parameters have verified that the dual estimation can generate robust and functional DVA parameters to weaken the torsional vibrations of the high-speed rotor. Abstract
