Investigating the Role of Medical Universities in Combating Dust and Sandstorms in the Sistan Region, Southeast of Iran
Today, the presence of dust storms and suspended particles, along with their impacts on public health and the environment, has become a significant public health concern. Addressing the challenges posed by dust storms and their environmental consequences, among the recent critical issues in the Sistan region, necessitates extensive collaboration among various national agencies. It also requires creating a shared platform for exchanging knowledge, technical expertise, and resources to enhance preparedness efforts and implement effective strategies. The role of medical universities, as hubs for nurturing experts and addressing health issues related to dust storms, is indispensable. Collaboration between these institutions and other regional and provincial authorities, using innovative and up-to-date scientific methods, can significantly contribute to reducing the occurrence of dust storms. It can also help preserve vital resources in the region, such as water, soil, and vegetation, promoting ecosystem sustainability. This study reviews and consolidates the role of integrated watershed management in combating dust storms while highlighting effective strategies and approaches in this domain.
