REVITALIZATION OF CITIES DAMAGED BY RUSSIAN AGGRESSION IN EASTERN UKRAINE
This article addresses the challenge of revitalizing Ukrainian cities damaged by Russian aggression, particularly in the eastern regions. The research examines not only methods of physical reconstruction but also comprehensive approaches to urban environment renewal that incorporate social, cultural, and ecological aspects. During the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in 2014-2022, thousands of objects were destroyed, including those that are very important for the fast recovery of the regions and their development - airports, bridges, residential buildings, energy infrastructure and social facilities. As the Russian Federation continues to attack with missiles even settlements far from the front, the number of destroyed objects is constantly growing. The enemy destroys objects no matter whether they belong to private, communal or state property. Among the top priorities for Ukraine's recovery from the war is the reconstruction of destroyed educational and healthcare facilities, also housing and municipal facilities. The study analyzes global experiences in post-conflict urban reconstruction, specifically examples from Sarajevo, Berlin, Warsaw, and Beirut, to identify successful strategies that can be adapted to the Ukrainian context. Special attention is given to innovative construction technologies, preservation of historical architecture, and creation of modern public spaces that facilitate the psychological recovery of communities. The practical significance of this research lies in formulating recommendations for urban planning and architectural professionals regarding the development of revitalization projects for Ukrainian cities that consider local specificities while implementing progressive international practices for sustainable urban development.
