THE USE OF ANTIMICROBIAL THERAPY FOR THE TREATMENT OF BACTERIAL INFECTIONS WITH WIDESPREAD DRUG RESISTANCE
Goal. To evaluate the frequency and risk factors of infections associated with multicomponent drug resistance (MDR) among patients in the intensive care unit. Materials and methods. A retrospective case-control study conducted at the Republican Clinical Hospital in Makhachkala included an analysis of 30 MDR-tested patients hospitalized from October 2022 to December 2024. Diseases were diagnosed according to Sepsis-3 standards, and infections were detected by the Vitek 2 system. Results. Of all the patients tested, 37% had bacteremia and 70% had sepsis. The percentage of prescribing empirical antibiotics was 83%. The risk group had a high incidence of infections caused by Escherichia coli (ESBL) and MRSA, in contrast to the control group. Conclusions. More effective diagnostic and treatment strategies need to be adapted for patients at high risk of MDR-related infections, including improved antibiotic prescribing and monitoring programs for patients with suspected infection.
