Involvement And Competence of Faculty Members in Instructional Materials Development: Input for An Organizational Support Program
This descriptive-correlational study described the status, faculty involvement, faculty professional competency and organizational support to instructional materials development as a basis for a training design. The study involved five Christian schools in the Schools Division of Laoag City. These are The Saviors’ Christian Academy, Maranatha Christian Academy of Laoag, Northside Bible Baptist Church, Divine Word College of Laoag, and the Living Gates of Praise Christian School, Inc. The respondents composed of 24 teachers from Grades 1-6 who teach Science. The primary data gathering tool was a survey questionnaire Meanwhile, data gathered were analyzed and interpreted using descriptive and inferential statistics. Christian schools in Laoag City primarily employ young, female teachers with basic qualifications, many on temporary contracts and with less than five years of experience. These teachers are committed to instructional materials development, particularly in planning and writing stages, but their involvement decreases in later stages due to limited resources and expertise. While they demonstrate competence in creating materials, they face challenges with funding and technical support. Despite strong capacity training, logistical support remains moderate. Organizational support plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of instructional materials, enabling teachers to create more effective resources that improve student learning.
