The Role of Filipino-American Educational Organizations in the Professional Development of Filipino-American Teachers
Despite the crucial role of Filipino-American educational organizations, there are notable gaps in understanding their effectiveness, successes, and challenges. While these organizations are known to provide vital resources and support, limited research exists on how well they meet the specific professional development needs of Filipino-American educators. This study examined the role of organizations such as AFTA, UNIFFIED, and AIDE in the professional development of Filipino-American teachers. The findings highlighted that each organization provided significant support through professional development workshops, mentorship, leadership training, and research opportunities, but differed in focus and reach. AFTA focused on regional support within the tri-state area, UNIFFIED had a broad international presence promoting community service and leadership, while AIDE prioritized academic development in the Philippines with potential for global support. Successes included effective mentorship programs and conferences, while challenges involved resource allocation, engagement sustainability, and network expansion. Strategic recommendations included enhancing collaboration, developing digital learning platforms, and fostering partnerships with U.S. and Philippine educational institutions. Strengthening connections between these organizations and Philippine institutions was recommended to enrich professional development programs. Overall, these organizations played an essential role in enhancing teaching practices and supporting career growth, contributing to educators’ success in the classroom.
