Histopathology Protocol Revision in Bone and Soft Tissue Biopsies: Can Efficiency and Quality Co-Exist?
Objectives: Our institution’s initial protocol after grossing sarcoma biopsies involved the creation of a large set of unstained (US) slides produced with the hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain. This protocol was reportedly established in the attempt to reduce turn-around-time (TAT) for ordering additional immunohistochemical (IHC) stains, as well as to protect against tissue loss. However, histology recently questioned this rationale and a new protocol has been implemented, eliminating the initial production of US slides.
