OBSTRUÇÃO DE VIAS AÉREAS POR CORPO ESTRANHO (OVACE) EM AMBIENTE DE URGÊNCIA E EMERGÊNCIA: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA
This study is an integrative literature review aimed at investigating the available scientific evidence on foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) in emergency and urgent care settings. The research was conducted in the PUBMED and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, using inclusion criteria such as publications between 2016 and 2025, available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, with full-text access. Studies that addressed conduct, management strategies, and clinical outcomes related to FBAO were selected, resulting in a final sample of 18 articles. The results showed that FBAO is a critical situation requiring immediate intervention, being more prevalent among children and the elderly. The analyzed studies highlighted the importance of training in basic life support for healthcare professionals, educators, and the general community, as a way to prevent complications and ensure timely and appropriate care. Strategies such as workshops, practical training, and health education initiatives proved effective in increasing knowledge and confidence among participants in handling emergency situations. The main limitations found refer to the scarcity of studies with experimental designs and the limited representation of hospital settings in the analyzed works. It is concluded that there is a need to expand research on FBAO, focusing on clinical protocols, effectiveness analysis of interventions, and strengthening continuous educational actions. This approach can contribute to reducing morbidity and mortality associated with this type of emergency, ensuring quicker and more effective responses at different levels of healthcare.
