Preparation of Magnetic Ion Exchange Resin via Electron Beam Radiation and Its Adsorption Capacity of Ce3+

In this paper, magnetic porous PMMA microspheres were prepared via suspension polymerization utilizing methyl methacrylate (MMA) as monomer, divinylbenzene (DVB) as cross-linking agent, liquid paraffin as the porogen and nano Fe3O4 as magnetic source. The highly acidic PMMA-SSS ion exchange resin was prepared by electron beam co-radiation grafting sodium p-styrene sulfonate. The prepared ion exchange resin was characterized using IR, TG, and XRD techniques confirming its successful preparation. The adsorption performance of the PMMA-SSS resin on Ce3+ were investigated. The results showed that the optimal adsorption effect was achieved at a radiation absorbed dose of 160 kGy and pH=5, and the adsorption capacity was 305.9 mg/g, and the adsorption behavior could be well fitted by the pseudo second-order kinetics model, indicating that the adsorption process is chemical adsorption.
