Extended endoscopic rhinosurgery for giant osteoma of the ethmoid labyrinth extending into the orbit

Osteomas are common benign tumors of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Nevertheless, surgical treatment of huge and giant osteomas is frequently associated with difficulties, especially when the tumor spreads into the orbit and the skull base. The article presented a case report of surgical treatment of the giant osteoma of the ethmoid labyrinth extending into the orbit by an endoscopic transnasal access. The surgical intervention included septoplasty, wide bilateral polysinusotomy and type III extended frontal sinusotomy. The osteoma was totally removed and the periorbita remained intact. There were no perioperative complications. There were no signs of osteoma according to control CT-scan 8 months after the surgery. The presented case report demonstrates the possibilities of extended endoscopic surgery in surgical treatment of giant osteomas of sinonasal area.
