AI Integrated Entertaining and Monitoring System for Daily Care of Elders

Caring for elderly individuals is a significant concern for their families.In today's fast-paced and expensive world, it is challenging to have a dedicated caregiver solely for the elderly.This has created a growing need for an AI-powered solution, such as a robotic companion for senior citizens.In response to this need, this paper presents a prototype of a companion robot designed for elderly care.The robot aims to alleviate depression, loneliness, and agitation among isolated seniors while supporting their daily activities within an indoor setting.Additionally, an Android app is introduced to keep their loved ones regularly updated.The proposed system offers various services, including emotion recognition based on visual identification, mood-based entertainment, safety alerts for unfamiliar individuals, reminders for important tasks, and basic conversational abilities.Initial tests of the prototype have shown promising outcomes, with an average functional accuracy of around 90%, demonstrating its potential usefulness not only for the elderly but also for individuals with mild cognitive impairments.
