An Analytical Approach to Evaluating the Usability of E-Government Websites in Bangladesh

In the 21st century, Bangladesh has seen a significant surge in internet-based services, underlining its dedication to utilizing technology to advance public services.Enhancing the usability of egovernment websites becomes paramount for improving citizen engagement and user experiences in accessing government services digitally, underscoring the nation's tech-driven transformation. While several studies have conducted usability testing on government websites, most assessments have been limited to a small number of websites, often employing the empirical approach with a restricted number of evaluators. This approach may not adequately represent Bangladesh's vast population of approximately 172.1 million. This paper aims to comprehensively investigate usability challenges within E-Government websites in Bangladesh by assessing their overall usability standards using a systematic analytical approach applied to 190 websites. This evaluation follows established UI/UX principles and utilizes standardized evaluation heuristics based on ISO9241 standards, incorporating 10 specific heuristics to assess the websites' effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction. The analytical approach emphasizes the importance of expert assessments and established theories for informing future design decisions. The findings of the study highlight the need for significant improvements in areas related to user satisfaction.
