Etymology оf Marine Terms and Phrases and Its Importance In Teaching Foreign Language Vocabulary

Etymology studies the origin of a word and the historical development of its meaning. Etymo-logists apply a number of methods to study the origins of words, some of which are: philological research, making use of dialectological data, the comparative method, the study of semantic change. Failing to remember previously studied words serves as one of the most commonly reported difficulties in vocabulary learning. The present study is an attempt to examine the role of etymological accounts in remembering the meanings of new words, hypothesizing that they will have a significantly positive effect on vocabulary retention due to the theoretical background described above. Various kinds of techniques, strategies, and, of course, materials have been designed and developed for effective vocabulary teaching and we should remark that using the etymology of the word and defining its historical origin is also a good learning strategies.
