Research on the practical application and optimization of digital measurement technology in ancient building conservation
Historic and cultural protection and preservation of ancient buildings is something that has been always been of paramount importance. New solutions to protect ancient buildings have been introduced by the rapid development of digital information technology. In addition to enabling accurate health monitoring of building structures, this technology also makes possible vivid digital reproduction of historical environments. Based on this, the study further synthesizes the integration of lightweight digital models with virtual reality and puts forward a comprehensive protection strategy for ancient buildings that include point cloud scanning and model processing methods. High precision point cloud data is collected in the first instance through the use of handheld point cloud laser scanners and drone oblique photogrammetry technology, both of which are fitted with on site ancient buildings. The point cloud data is subsequently processed with aerial triangulation and CloudCompare, achieving highly quality results to fulfill application requirements and detail building structure health monitoring. In the second step, the data is post processed from the point cloud data using 3ds Max and SVSmodeler to produce and detailed 3D building model for digital reconstruction and multi scenario applications. Not only does this method improve the accuracy in analyzing the protection status of ancient buildings, it also opens new doors to digital display and interactive experiences so as to effectively protect and promote cultural heritage.
