Study on road performance of slag-straw ffiber gangue mixes
Abstract To address the issue of massive accumulation of gangue and other solid wastes that severely pollute the environment and to achieve the strategic objective of green and low-carbon transportation development, this study examined the road performance of gangue-based mixes in monsoon-frozen regions. A type of highway semi-rigid base layer mix was developed by selecting solid wastes such as coal gangue, slag cement, and straw fiber as raw materials, in conjunction with an alkali activator. Through the mechanical test, freeze-thaw cycle test, and fatigue test, the road performance of the gangue base layer mix was studied. Comprehensive mechanical test results show that, when the dosage of the grass-roots level mix gelling material is 5%, the requirements of highway traffic are met; after 10 freezing and thawing cycles, when the gelling material dosage is 5%, the 28-day unconfined compressive strength still meets the national standard and has better durability; with the increase in the dosage of rice straw fibers, the fatigue life of the mixture increases, and the minimum fatigue damage occurs at the dosage of 2.5%.
